5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny production begins in India

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

The wait is finally over for the excited Jimny fans in India. Maruti Suzuki has now begun with the series production of the Jimny 5-door at its Gurugram plant. As we understand, the Jimny will go on sale in India next month. We got a glimpse of the SUV in January at the Auto Expo 2023. Bookings for the Jimny 5-door are already underway. Furthermore, as per sources, Maruti Suzuki has racked up around 25,000 bookings for the Thar to date.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny High Waiting Period

As per the sources, Maruti will unveil the prices for the Jimny around the first week of June. And the deliveries will commence a week later. As it stands, the waiting period for the manual gearbox-equipped variants stands at around six months. Meanwhile, the automatic variants have a waiting period of between seven-eight months. The Jimny is currently available in a total of four variants. And thus it is likely that Maruti Suzuki will prioritise the production of the top-spec Alpha trim. Customers are liking the Bluish Black, Kinetic Yellow and Pearl Arctic White colour shade options.

As for the production capacity, we assume Maruti Suzuki is targeting to build around 1 lakh units every year. Of these, 66 per cent will cater to the domestic market, while the rest will cater to the international market. Maruti Suzuki is also planning to allocate around 7,000 units for the Indian market every month.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Powertrain Options

The Jimny will retail with a 105 HP, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. This engine is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. All Jimny variants also benefit from Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox. Thus, we get ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Rival Options

We believe Maruti Suzuki will target prices in the range of INR 10 lakh to INR 12 lakh (ex-showroom. As it stands, the Jimny will have direct rivals that include the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
