2023 Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door price leaked, OVERPRICED?

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Maruti Suzuki’s Jimny has quite some hype around it ever since it was showcased in the 5-door avatar at the Auto Expo 2023 in India. While some thing it is too small a vehicle to be investing in, many enthusiasts are looking forward to this compact off-roader. Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the Jimny 5-door in India in just a few weeks from now, and finally, there’s a leak, which gives us a hint at the pricing. Maruti Suzuki has not yet officially announced the pricing of the Jimny in India.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Price

A leaked dealer invoice is hinting at an ex-factory price tag of INR 13,65,705.80. Now this amount is inclusive of GST & Compensation Cess. The variant mentioned is a 5-door Jimny with the K15B engine with the automatic gearbox. If this is true, in a city like Bangalore or Mumbai, this Jimny variant could cost anywhere between INR 16 – 18 lakh on-road. One can buy a Mahindra Thar at the same price, and the Thar is a much bigger product, with much better road presence and also, most importantly, Mahindra has proved that the Thar is a SAFE off-road lifestyle vehicle.

If you read across a few forums, potential customers who had booked the Jimny are now talking about cancelling their bookings, because they think this pricing is not justified for the Jimny 5-door.

Another issue with the Jimny could be the price to performance ratio, especially if such a high price tag is expected. Powering the Jimny is a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor producing 104.8 PS of power and 134.2 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. AllGrip Pro off-road hardware would be standard. But at this price, you get more fun to drive cars. First, look at the torque number. Then, look at the gearbox, no 6-speed MT & just a 4-speed AT.

But, everything is subjective to personal taste. Someone who is smitten by the Jimny, will surely go ahead and get one. It will be a different looking off-road vehicle out on the streets for sure. But those who make mind over heart decisions, would surely look elsewhere if pricing is very close to the Mahindra Thar, or other larger, better equipped & better performance delivering products.
