According to sources, Kia India has recalled its popular Carens MPV. The recall pertains to a potential issue with the airbag control unit software. The South Korean manufacturer will recall the MPVs and also contact the owners of the Carens regarding the same. This is the first time Kia has recalled the Carens MPV in India.

This is not the first time that Kia India has issued a recall. There have been 2 recalls in the past. There was one in October 2019 and another one in March 2020. Both the recalls were for the Kia Seltos’ diesel variants over fuel pump issues.

Kia India Issues Recall For Carens MPV

The Kia Carens MPV is one of the few mainstream models to come with 6 airbags as standard across the range. The South Korean brand said it will recall a total of 44,174 units of the MPV. In a recent press release, Kia India said that customers will have to visit their nearest Kia dealerships to schedule an appointment. Alternatively, customers can also schedule an appointment for the recall using Kia India’s official website or the Kia smartphone app.

As mentioned, the recall is to fix a potential issue with the airbag control unit software. Kia also said that it is undertaking this voluntary recall campaign to inspect the issue. After inspection, if Kia finds out the issue is present, it will provide a software update free of charge.
