22Motors patents ‘Hill Assist’ tech for Flow Electric Scooter

Written by Nizam Shaikh

22Motors, which is an electric mobility solutions company headquartered in Gurgaon has obtained a worldwide patent for its innovation of ‘Hill Assist Control’, a feature to be used in two-wheelers at a global level. The patent was filed on 7th of February 2019 and it was granted on 9th May 2019. The technology adds to the safety of the user/customer when the two-wheeler is being ridden on an incline. The Hill Assist Control feature is automatically activated and it stops the bike from rolling backwards when it is on a gradient. This helps the rider by giving time to accelerate forward in situations where there is another vehicle behind the two-wheeler.

The upcoming scooter from 22Motors is ‘Flow’, which features three riding modes including a Cruise mode, Reverse mode and Drag mode. While the other two are self-explanatory, the company claims that the Drag mode can be used in event of a breakdown, where the rider need not push the bike but activate the mode, and the scooter will then push itself at 3 kmph, which is the average walking speed eliminating the need to ‘drag’ (push) the two-wheeler.

Flow from 22Motors is powered by a Bosch Power Train DC motor with a maximum torque of 90 Nm and is connected to a 2100 Watt lithium-ion battery which can provide a range of 160 km using dual batteries. The scooter can do a top speed of 60 kmph and the battery can be charged to up to 70% in one hour using a quick charger, and the batteries can be completely replenished in 4-5 hours with a conventional 5 Ampere wall charger. The scooter also features regenerative braking and recycles up to 60% of the braking energy, which is then stored in its batteries.

The scooter features all LED lights, projector headlamp and an alloy wheel on the front. The scooter also features disc brakes on both wheels equipped with CBS (Combined Braking System) for safety, tubeless tyres, water and dust protection (IP65), front telescopic and rear dual hydraulic suspension, 25 litres boot space which can accommodate two helmets, Bluetooth connectivity, AI intelligent features and removable battery pack.

The scooter which was first unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo is expected to be launched by September 2019 at a price tag of around INR 75,000.
