Nissan currently retails on the Magnite compact SUV in the Indian market. The brand has not introduced any other vehicle since April 2023. However, a media report reveals that this could be changed with the introduction of the Nissan X-Trail SUV in the Indian market.
Nissan X-Trail – Launch in June?
According to reports, the Nissan X-Trail which is now in its fourth-generation and sold in the international market could make it to Indian soil soon. Sources say that the brand has been road testing the SUV in India and the car could make it to Nissan showroom as soon as June or July 2024.
However, if Nissan plans to launch the X-Trial in the Indian market, the brand will be bringing the SUV via the CBU route. Also, reports reveal that the X-Trial will only be available in India with a petrol engine. Nissan could be planning to bring the X-Trial under the Government’s 2,500 vehicle import per annum policy. This means the brand need not homologate the vehicle for the country. However, lack of local production means the Nissan X-Trail will be expensive and their target customers are likely to be Nissan aficionados.
Nissan X-Trail – Powertrain
In October Nissan also showcased the “e-Power” Hybrid version of the X-Trial. But, the more expensive powertrain is unlikely to make it to our price sensitive country. However, even in its petrol avatar, the Nissan X-Trial features a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol motor in the international market. The motor is tuned to produce 240 Hp of power and 305 Nm of torque. The engine is likely to be matched to a CVT gearbox, however, it is still unclear if the brand will offer a 4-wheel-drivetrain.
Nissan X-Trail – Price and Competition
While price speculation at this point is scarce, however, the brand is likely to position the 7-seater X-Trail against the Skoda Kodiaq which comes with a tag of ~INR 40 lakh ex-showroom.
