Yamaha has revealed the 2022 60th anniversary editions of the popular Yamaha R125 and Yamaha R3. The most significant update on the motorcycles is the new Euro5 compliant engine. However, the most eye-catching feature of the new 2022 R125 and R3 is the new paint theme. Both the motorcycles are now available with Yamaha’s signature World GP 60th Anniversary livery.
The Yamaha World GP 60th Anniversary theme features Yamaha’s red ‘speed block’ graphics. The Speed Block graphics pay tribute to Yamaha’s Grand Prix race bikes. The Yamaha Speed Block graphics have been used on the brand’s GP race bikes since 1961. The race livery is laid down on white colour and comes with gold-coloured wheels, a red front fender and a yellow front race patch. The R-series bikes also come with a 60th-anniversary emblem and red stripe running along the top of the fuel tank and tail.
The Yamaha R125 come with M1-inspired faring with a ram-air intake on the fairing flanked by sleek LED headlamps. The bike also comes with an aerodynamic fairing and a bubble style windscreen. The R125 comes with a sleek tail section and LED taillamps along with a high mount pillion seat and clip-on handlebars. The bike also comes with an M1-inspired dashboard and rear-set footpegs that allow an aggressive riding stance.
Powering the R125 is a Euro5 compliant 125cc single-cylinder, four-stroke liquid-cooled engine with a Variable Valve Actuation system. The electronically fuel-injected engine produces 15 PS of power and 11.5 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed gearbox with wet multi-plate assist and a slipper clutch. The motorcycle comes with a steel delta box chassis that rides on a 41mm upside-down telescopic front fork and a monoshock on the rear. The bike also comes with a 292 mm front disc with hydraulic callipers on the front and a 220mm disc with hydraulic callipers on the rear.
The Yamaha R3 draws its design inspiration from the Yamaha M1 racebike. The motorcycle features an aerodynamic front nose with sleek headlamps, ram-air intake on the nose and a bubble windscreen. The bike also features a chiselled fuel tank with prominent knee recesses, split seats, and a high-mount pillion seat. The R3 comes with an upswept exhaust, clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs, offering the rider an aggressive yet comfortable riding stance.
Powering the Yamaha R3 is a Euro5 compliant 321cc inline twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The four-stroke engine comes with a 4-valves per cylinder DOHC valve distribution system and electronic fuel injection. The engine features a 180-degree crank design with an integrated counterbalance. The motor also comes with Yamaha’s unique DiASil, a high-silicon aluminium alloy and innovative offset cylinder design that produce 41 PS of power and 29.5 Nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed transmission.
While the Yamaha R125 is unlikely to make it to the Indian market, the new R3 with the new colour theme is likely to make its debut in the future. The brand is also upgrading the much-popular Yamaha R15 in India, which will come with Yamaha R7 inspired fairing design.
