2021 Yamaha YZF-R15M fully revealed in spy shots before launch

A few days ago, we reported that Yamaha received the ICAT type Approval for the upcoming Yamaha R15M. The brand had registered the R15M moniker, which may replace the R15V3 or sell alongside the model. Anyhow, the homologation of the motorcycle indicated that the motorcycle is now ready to make its debut. Now images of the new Yamaha R15M, sans camouflage, emerged on the internet. The photos appear from a dealer yard, leading us to believe that the launch is just around the corner.

Yamaha R15M – Design Highlights

The Yamaha R15M features a new design that draws inspiration from the recently launched Yamaha R7. The front fascia features eyebrow style LED daytime running lights and a monocular projector headlamp recessed into the faux ram air intake. The keen-eyed would also notice that the R15M comes with aerodynamic features to assist in overall airflow and wind protection to the rider. The bike comes with a clear windscreen and a new fairing design. The fuel tank and side panels also come with changes to the design. However, the tail section appears to remain unchanged. But the biggest highlight is the upside-down front fork unit with gold finish.

Yamaha R15M – Engine Specifications

Powering the Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 is a 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve engine. The engine comes with electronic fuel injection and advanced Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) that helps produce 18.5 PS of power and 14.1 Nm of torque. The motor comes with a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. The BS6 compliant engine is likely to continue its duty on the new Yamaha R15M. Leaked type approval documents concur with our speculation.

Yamaha R15M – Mechanical Specifications

The new Yamaha R15M will come with a new upside-down front suspension unit. However, the front brake calliper appears to be axially mounted to save costs. The alloy wheel design and the brake rotor size also seems to remain the same. Yamaha could lift the rear suspension, swingarm and brake assembly straight from the Yamaha R15 Version 3.0.
