Yamaha Aerox 155 scooter type approved in India, launch soon?

Yamaha is planning to expand its product portfolio in the Indian market. The brand reportedly received the type approval for a new version of the Yamaha R15, called R15M. Sources report that the brand is homologating another vehicle in the Indian market with the same engine. But this time, the 155cc liquid-cooled engine will power the latest Yamaha scooter. Yes, Yamaha is planning to launch the Yamaha Aerox in India. As per leaked documents from ICAT, the Yamaha Aerox 155 has received the type approval in the Indian market.

Yamaha Aerox 155 – Engine Specifications

According to the ICAT documents, the Yamaha Aerox will come with the same engine that powers the Yamaha R15 V3. The 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor produces 18.5 PS of power on the R15 V3. But the automatic transmission engine on the Aerox 155 scooter produces 15 PS of power. The scooter in the Indonesian market belts out a twisting force of 13.9 Nm of torque and comes with a centrifugal type automatic gearbox with a dry clutch.

Yamaha Aerox 155 – Performance

Although the Aerox 155 develops less power and slightly less torque, the scooter comes with Smart Motor Generator and Stop and Start System in Indonesia. Like the R15 V3, the Aerox 155 also comes with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology. But the scooter shines in the weight department. Compared to the R15 Version 3.0, the Aerox 155 is approximately 17 kg lighter than the motorcycle. And despite the disadvantage of the power output, the Aerox will be quite a slick scooter to ride.

Yamaha Aerox 155 – Dimension and Competition

According to the type approval documents leaked on the internet, the Yamaha Aerox 155 will measure 1980mm in length, 700mm in width, 1150mm in height and comes with a wheelbase of 1350mm. The scooter will compete with the Aprilia SXR160, the Suzuki Burgman Street, Piaggio Vespa 150, Aprilia SR 160 etc.

Yamaha Aerox 155 – Price Speculation
