Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki has unveiled its updated 2022 Katana sports bike at the EICMA 2021 show in Milan. The new 2022 Suzuki Katana now sports similar updates to its GSX-S1000 counterpart, which received a complete refresh in 2021. Thanks to several styling and functional updates, Suzuki has managed to improve the Katana’s overall riding performance and features.
2022 Suzuki Katana: Design Details
Originally debuting in 1981, Suzuki used the Katana nameplate for its bike inspired by the famed Japanese sword. The reasoning behind using the Katana name is thanks to the sharp yet functional lines seen on the bike’s design. For 2022, Suzuki has focussed on the craftsmanship and details of the bike by introducing a “Premium Chic” colour concept. In comparison to the 2020 version, the new Katana now sports gold-coloured front forks instead of black.
Suzuki has implemented colour-coordinated wheels for the 2022 Katana instead of black wheels found on the 2020 version. Additionally, the bike now features grey-coloured rear suspension coils instead of red, along with a darker tone on the seat. Suzuki offers the new Katana with two colour options – Metallic Matte Stellar Blue and Solid Iron Grey. The brand also offers a custom-designed ignition key for customers as a mascot that sports the Katana logo for exclusivity.
2022 Suzuki Katana: Technical Specs
Suzuki has implemented major changes towards the engine of the 2022 Katana in order to meet Euro 5 emission norms. The bike’s engine now sports new camshafts, revised valve springs, a new clutch, an updated airbox, and a tweaked exhaust. Thanks to the decreased valve overlap and other changes, the bike’s 999cc, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder liquid-cooled engine produces 152 PS of power.
Similar to Suzuki’s latest GSX-S1000, the Katana gets three engine map modes that alter engine response based on the rider’s needs. The ‘A’ mode enables the bike to provide maximum power and is the sportiest setting meant for sharp road handling. Meanwhile, the ‘C’ provides the softest engine response, which riders can use on slippery surfaced roads for added safety.
On the other hand, the engine’s ‘B’ mode provides the perfect balance of power and handling for daily use. Suzuki has paired the engine to a 6-speed transmission which now features a bi-directional quickshifter for smoother downshifts. The brand has utilized the same alloy beam chassis frame from the 2020 Katana along with a 12-litre fuel tank.
Similar to the GSX-S1000, the Katana sports fully adjustable, inverted KYB front forks with a monoshock, link-type rear suspension. For braking performance, the bike features dual front disc brakes with Brembo callipers along with a single rear brake disc. Suzuki also offers the 2022 Katana with 17-inch, 6-spoke alloy wheels along with a traction control system with five modes.

Additionally, the bike also sports LED DRLs and front position lights with turn signals along with LED rear turn signals. Suzuki offers a smoked visor, coloured seat, carbon starter cover, and red-coloured Brembo callipers in terms of optional accessories. The brand also offers rim decals, a grip heater, a tank pad, frame slider set, along with side and fuel tank protection stickers.
