2022 Honda WR-V facelift looks ready for launch, spotted in plant

Written by Rohit Tonapi

Honda’s Jazz-based WR-V has been quite successful in the Indian market. The company gave the WR-V a facelift in 2020 to keep it relevant among the new options in the market. Honda’s other SUV models never fared well in India. The CR-V, though it is highly acclaimed internationally, never really did well in India. It was the same case for the BR-V as well. However, the WR-V kept racking good sales figures.

What works in the WR-V’s favour after the 2020 facelift is that Honda discontinued the diesel from the Jazz. This meant that the WR-V was the only option for someone looking for a diesel Honda hatchback. Like the Jazz, the Honda WR-V offers the same space and comfort. Additionally, the WR-V also gets features like a sunroof. It also gets a better ground clearance and more rugged styling.

2022 Honda WR-V Facelift Spy Shot – What Do We See?

We now get to see the first spy shot of the 2022 WR-V. The car in the photo is not out on public roads, nor is it wearing any camouflage. Hence, it is highly likely that the WR-V spy shot is from the manufacturing facility. The dust on the car also suggests it has been outside for some time.

Looking at the 2022 WR-V spy shot, the first thing that catches your attention is the new grille and headlights. The grill is much shorter vertically than the current one. Additionally, unlike the current horizontal slats, this one sports a honeycomb mesh-like pattern with chrome studs in between.

The other notable change is the new headlights. The headlights get a new split design and are also sleeker than before. The low beam will use a projector, while the high beam will use a reflector. The upper half of the split headlight will most likely feature a LED DRL. The gap between the DRL and the main headlight will likely get a chrome strip. However, it is not easily identifiable in this photo because of the car’s silver colour.

Lower down, the air dam remains the same size. However, there is less black body cladding. It still continues to sport a silver skid plate. The 2022 WR-V facelift also gets new housing for the fog lights. The position of the fog lights also looks lower than the one on the current model. The 2022 WR-V facelift’s side profile remains identical to the current one. However, it could get new alloy wheel designs. As we don’t get to see the rear of the car, we can’t be sure of the changes. Although, we do expect Honda to make changes to the taillights and the rear bumper.

2022 Honda WR-V Facelift – Expected Launch

Presently, there is no confirmation when Honda might launch the 2022 WR-V facelift. Some sources say this could be the facelift model Honda was to bring in 2020. At the same time, some sources say Honda may not launch it at all. The reason for the latter is that Honda is also working on a sub-4-metre SUV. The codename for this SUV is PF2. There are chances that the PF2 will replace the WR-V. The new SUV will arrive around the middle of 2023.
