Ducati has finally unveiled the new Monster SP making it the second launch in the 2023 digital World Premiere series. This is an online event that periodically brings in a new model from the Bologna-based motorcycle maker.
The Ducati Monster SP (SP stands for Sport Production) is a more track-oriented version of Ducati’s own Monster. The Monster SP version makes use of a whole host of mechanical changes. All this adds up perfectly to suit the track-focused character. Key inclusions include fully adjustable Ohlins suspension, Brembo Stylema callipers and a homologated Termignoni slip-on exhaust.
What’s New In The Ducati Monster SP?
Ducati has worked on the entire bike, which helped them shave off 2 kg from its kerb weight. Thus, the Monster SP tips the scales at 186 kg when fully fueled up. For reference, the standard Monster weighs 188 kg. The weight reduction is due to the implementation of lighter componentry, such as the lithium-ion battery. In fact, the equipped Brembo Stylema callipers, fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension front and rear, a steering damper and a road-homologated Termignoni slip-on exhaust also reduce the weight significantly. The Monster SP wears the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tires, the same as on the recently-launched Ducati Streetfighter V2.
More New Additions
That’s not all. There’s more to Ducati Monster SP. The seat height is now up from 820 mm to 840mm, and there are also some geometry changes, such as the shorter wheelbase. This helps increase the Monster SP’s cornering clearance. Although Ducati does claim an increase in the cornering clearance, there’s no mention of any figures.
To further excite things, the Ducati Monster SP also gets different riding modes compared to the standard Monster. The standard Monster benefits from Sport, Touring and Urban modes. Meanwhile, the Monster SP comes with Sport, Road and the new Wet riding mode. However, the rest of the electronics remain the same as the standard Monster. To differentiate it visually from the standard bike, Ducati Monster SP uses a paint scheme borrowed from its MotoGP bikes. Thus we get to see a red seat and red accents on the front fender and wheels.
Shared Parts With The Standard Trim
The equipped engine is the same 937cc liquid-cooled, V-Twin engine. The performance output of the motor reads as 111 HP and 93 Nm. The equipped gearbox is a 6-speed unit. It gets a hydraulic clutch and also benefits from a bi-directional quickshifter. The aluminium alloy front frame is also the same as the standard trim. We do get the more premium Brembo Stylema units compared to the M4.32 monoblocs on the standard Monster. But the actual brake discs are the same size which is 320mm.
India Launch Updates
As for the India launch news, we do not have any official announcements from Ducati as of yet. But given the upgrades over the standard trim, we expect Monster SP to command a significant premium over the standard Monster if at all it comes to our shores.
