2021 Tata Altroz iTurbo performance variant officially unveiled

At the first anniversary of the Tata Altroz, Indian car major Tata Motors has unveiled the new Tata Altroz iTurbo, a turbocharged petrol variant of the hot hatchback the Tata Altroz. The Tata Altroz iTurbo not only features a new engine but also comes with a new shade called Harbour Blue. Tata has commenced bookings on the Altroz iTurbo variant at all Tata Motors dealerships starting today and interested customers can reserve the Altroz iTurbo at INR 11,000. The prices on the Tata Altroz iTurbo will be announced on 22nd January 2020. 

The Tata Altroz iTurbo will be powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor that produces 110 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque matched to a 5- speed manual gearbox. The Altroz iTurbo can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 11.9 seconds. The Altroz iTurbo also features a Sports drive mode that offers a special engine map that delivers 25-30% better power and torque than standard. The brand has also revealed that the Altroz iTurbo claims to return a fuel efficiency of 18.13 kmpl on the MIDC cycle. In its standard form, the Tata Altroz is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that makes 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The Altroz also comes with a BS6 emission-compliant 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that makes 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual transmission. 

The Tata Altroz made its debut with the ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced – Architecture) platform and features the brand’s Impact 2.0 design philosophy. On the exterior, the Altroz iTurbo remains similar to the standard car and retains features such as sweptback projector headlamps integrated with the radiator grille, bumper-mounted large fog lamps, flared wheel arches, a sloping bonnet, dual-tone alloy wheels, gloss black window line, dark inserts on the tail lamps, tailgate integrated spoiler, C-pillar mounted rear door handle, 16-inch alloy wheels, etc.

On the inside, the Tata Altroz features a floating island touchscreen infotainment system, IRA connected features with more than 70 Hindi, English and Hinglish commands, What3Words command, remote connectivity via IRA smartphone application, wearable SmartKey, a multilayered dashboard fascia, new dual-tone black and light grey interior colour, new contoured seats with premium leatherette textured upholstery, Xpress Cool airconditioning that cools the cabin 70% faster, rear air conditioning vents, control mounted steering wheel, 7-inch digital instrumentation, rear parking camera etc.

The Tata Altroz is offered in six trims and the iTurbo variant will be available in the XT, XZ and XZ+ trims. The Tata Altroz iTurbo will directly compete with the latest crop of three-cylinder turbo-petrol hot hatches such as the Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai i20.
