2021 Renault Kiger Turbo Petrol Manual Review

Renault recently launched the Kiger compact SUV in the Indian market at the price starting at INR 5.45 lakh ex-showroom introductory. The Kiger uses the same CMF-A+ platform that underpins the Nissan Magnite SUV under the Renault-Nissan partnership, but the Kiger is not just a badge-engineered model and wears a completely different top hat. The changes are not just limited to the exteriors, the Kiger also comes with new interiors that set the car apart from the Magnite. We got a chance to drive the Renault Kiger Turbo-Petrol model with the manual gearbox option and here is a comprehensive review of the compact SUV.

Powertrain

Powering the Renault Kiger is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that pumps out 100 Hp of power and 160 Nm of torque and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as an optional 5-step CVT automatic. The compact SUV also comes with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque and comes with two transmission options a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed Easy-R AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

Exteriors

On the outside, the Renault Kiger features a large and imposing Renault logo in the centre, winged grille design with chrome accents, sleek LED daytime running lights with a second light below it that is the turn indicator, bumper-mounted LED headlamps with three cube-shaped lamps, power bulges on the bonnet, a sharp splitter on the bumper, heavy-duty plastic cladding on the sides, blacked-out A and B pillars along with a tapering black applique on the C-pillar, a black-finish dual-tone roof that is an INR 17,000 extra option, silver roof rails, C-shaped LED combination tail lamps etc.

Interiors

On the interiors, the Kiger features a 7-inch fully digital instruments cluster, steering mounted controls, an 8-inch centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity features, wireless smartphone charging, automatic climate control airconditioning, dark-themed interiors, a large centre console with smart storage spaces, large door pockets, dual glove box on the dashboard, and large 400-litres boot space.

Safety

The Renault Kiger comes with safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS+EBD and an electronic stability program as standard.
