Written by Nizam Shaikh

Following the unveiling of the 2021 KTM 890 Adventure R and 890 Adventure R Rally, the Austrian brand has now revealed the 2021 KTM 890 Adventure, an ADV class motorcycle that is superior both on and off-road. The 2021 motorcycle is based on the 790 Adventure but features the new larger-displacement Euro5 compliant engine and a plethora of other highlights that make the 890 Adventure even better.

Powering the 2021 KTM 890 Adventure is an 889cc twin-cylinder 4-stroke DOHC unit that makes 105 Hp of power and 100 Nm of torque that is 10 hp and 12 Nm more than the earlier smaller capacity engine used to develop. The full Euro5 compliant engine features a 20% more rotating mass on the crankshaft making a stable and consistent output, especially in the low rev range.

The increased mass in the crankshaft also helps the motorcycle carve out corners by augmenting a centralized sensation and traction. The 890 Adventure also comes with a refined and stronger clutch to cope with the boosted performance and the powerplant is Euro5 compliant. A range of KTM PowerPart upgrades also means that the 890 Adventure gets a QuickShifter+ with optimised settings, Cruise Control with the handlebar switch now provided as standard, heated seat and grips and luggage mounts enhancing the travel ability of the ADV motorcycle.

The chassis from the 790 Adventure has been retained but the rear subframe is now lighter and the WP APEX rear suspension tweaked to offer greater customization potential through a new rebound damping adjuster and an additional hand adjuster for spring preload. Both the front and rear suspension are inspired by Dakar Rally ergonomics and offer a balance between tarmac and gravel. The new setup also offers 200mm of travel on both ends. The motorcycle is also comparably slim, light and comes with an accessible seat height as per ADV standards.

Other highlights include a large 20-litre tank for extra highway range, a full-size TFT dashboard, KTM MY RIDE navigation, Cornering ABS, Motorcycle Traction Control and Motor Slip Regulation, adjustable seat in two height configurations, anodized wheel hubs instead of powder-coated and even the front & rear brakes have been reworked for added control.

The KTM 890 ADVENTURE will be arriving at authorized KTM dealers worldwide from December 2020 onwards.
