2020 Isuzu D-Max scores 5-star crash test rating at EURO NCAP

The 2020 Isuzu D-Max has scored a 5-star crash rating at the European New Car Assessment Programme. The voluntary non-profit organisation crash test and reports vehicles for the European markets. A left-hand-driven Crew Cab 1.9 diesel model of the Isuzu D-Max with four-doors and double cab pick-up truck weighing in at 2030kg was used for the crash test. 

The Isuzu D-Max was equipped with a seatbelt reminder in both front and rear row, seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters on all seats, driver and passenger front airbag, driver knee airbag, side head airbag for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers, side chest airbags for driver and front passenger, centre airbag for driver and front passenger, ISOFIX anchorage system in the rear row and airbag deactivation. The pick-up was also equipped with other safety systems such as Speed Assistance, Lane Assist System, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) for Vulnerable Road Users (pedestrians) and AEB for Car-to-Car turn across path all fitted as standard. 

The 2020 Isuzu D-Max was subjected to Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier and Full Width Rigid Barrier where the car scored 11.2 points out of 16. In the lateral impact test, the D-Max was subjected to Far-Side Excursion, Occupant Interaction, Side Mobile Barrier and Side Pole, where the vehicle scored 15.5 out of 16 points. In the Rear Impact test, the D-Max scored 3.5 out of 4 points and in the Rescue and Extrication test the Isuzu D-Max scored a full 2 out of 2 points as it is equipped with Multi Collision Brake as well as Advanced eCall as standard. The total for Adult Occupant Protection was 32.2 points with 84% score. 

The 2020 Isuzu D-Max was tested for Crash Test Performance based on 6 & 10-year-old children and was equipped with KidFix Child Restraint System CRS for the 6-year-old and Graco Junior CRS for the 10-year-old. The CRS was mounted to the rear seats using the on-board ISOFIX Child Seat anchorage system and in the Frontal and Lateral Impact tests, the vehicle scored 16 points and 8 points, respectively garnering full 24 out of 24 points. The safety features specifically designed for child occupants gained 7 points out of 13 as features such as ISOFIX in the centre seat, i-Size in the centre and front passenger and Integrated CRS were missing, but CRS installation garnered 11.2 out of 12 points. It was also observed that in both the frontal offset test and the side barrier impact, protection of both child dummies was rated as good. The Child Occupant Protection scored 42.2 points which translate to an 86% score. 

The pick-up truck also scored Total 37.6 Pts / 69% for vulnerable road users and 13.4 Pts / 83% for safety assists systems, totalling a full 5-star score for the pick-up truck.
