Piaggio is gearing up to launch the Aprilia SXR 160 Maxi-Scooter in the Indian market. The brand has commenced pre-launch bookings of the Aprilia SXR 160 at the price of just INR 5,000 and the maxi-scooter is expected Aprilia dealerships in January 2021. The Aprilia SXR 160 features the Italian brand’s hallmark crossmax design with signature Aprilia triple LED headlamp cluster with twin-split main beams and a central high-beam, integrated LED daytime running lights, integrated LED turn signal indicators and a wraparound look. The front fascia features an apron incorporated flyscreen with a smoked effect, an aerodynamic front fairing that offers wind protection to the rider.
The Aprilia SXR 160 features chiselled side body design along with a wraparound LED combination tail lamp that offers good lateral visibility as well as improving the rider’s safety quotient. The SXR 160 offers a reasonably large footboard, generous under-seat storage capacity that can fit a Jet fighter style helmet and leave some space for extra oddities, a front glove box with USB charging and space for storing a smartphone, under-seat fuel filler cap for extra safety, chunky pillion grabrails, a large ergonomically designed seat that offers ample seating for two large adults, upright handlebar covered with plastic shrouds offering a premium look and a large LCD instruments cluster with a tachometer, speed readout, odometer, time, and multiple trip computers.
Powering the Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter is a BS6 emission-compliant 160.03cc air-fan-cooled single-cylinder 3-valve SOHC fuel-injected motor with Aprilia clean emission engine technology, that churns out 11 PS of power and 11.6 Nm of torque matched to an automatic CVT transmission. The Maxi-Scooter measures 1,960mm in length, 803mm in width and 1,353mm in height and comes with 12-inch dual-geometry 5-spoke alloy wheels shod in 120/70 tubeless wide rubber tyres. The scooter comes with telescopic front suspension, monoshock on the rear, disc brake on the front, mechanical drum on the rear and ABS technology for safety.
The Aprilia SXR 160 is offered in four colour options – Glossy White, Matte Black, Glossy Red and Matte Blue. Though the brand has not yet announced the price, market speculation believes that the premium maxi-scooter will be priced around INR 1.30 lakh on the road.
