Korean automotive giant Kia has announced that it has rolled out its first, production-ready version of the Carens in India. Kia India unveiled the three-row recreation vehicle for its first customer from its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. As the brand’s latest ‘Made-in-India’ offering, the Carens combines the sophistication of an MPV with the sportiness of an SUV. Kia India also stated that it has tested the Carens extensively across multiple terrains and simulated conditions prior to production.
With the manufacturing and production taking place in India, the brand will export the Carens to over 80 countries. Kia India premiered the Carens in December 2021 and will officially launch it across the country in February 2022. With pre-bookings opened for prospective customers on 14th January 2022, the Caren’s sports a booking amount of INR 25,000. So far, Kia India has registered around 7,738 bookings for the Carens within the first 24 hours.
2022 Kia Carens: Detailed HighlightsÂ
Kia India revealed all the details of its all-new Carens MPV on 4th January 2022, including its trims and features. On the Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus trims, the Carens will sport 6 airbags as standard. The brand will offer the 3-row MPV with 6 or 7-seater options to compete with its sibling, the Hyundai Alcazar. Additionally, the Carens will also rival the likes of the Toyota Innova, Tata Safari, Mahindra Marazzo, and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
With the Opposites United design theme, the Carens sports star map LED DRLs and LED headlamps at the front. Meanwhile, the Caren’s front fascia sports a unique knurled grille applique with a mesh on the lower grille. Along with rounded wheel arches and 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, the Carens sports a progressive roofline and a chiselled tail section. Kia has also equipped the MPV with wraparound LED tail lights, chrome-panelling on the rear bumper along with 8 colours.
With 3 engine options and 3 gearbox options to choose from, Kia India aims to cater to a wide audience. For the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with 115 PS and 144 Nm, Kia only offers a 6-speed manual gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.4-litre, four-cylinder the turbo-petrol motor produces 140 PS and 242 Nm with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT transmissions. Finally, the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel with 115 PS and 250 Nm sports a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
