2022 Kia Carens Review

Kia recently opened bookings on the new Kia Carens SUV in the Indian market. The brand has not revealed the pricing on the MPV yet but speculation is that the Carens will come with competitive pricing in the segments that the MPV sits in. To put things into perspective, the Hyundai Alcazar, Carens’ close competitor comes with a price starting at INR 16.30 lakh ex-showroom going up to INR 20.15 lakh ex-showroom. Now we got our hands on the new Kia Carens MPV bringing you a comprehensive review of the MPV which boasts to bring a new change to the three-row vehicle segment.

Kia Carens – Design Highlights

The new Kia Carens MPV features the Opposites United design philosophy that offers contrasting design details from nature. The Carens MPV comes with star map LED DRLs along with LED headlamps and a wide front fascia. The car features a knurled grille applique on the front and a mesh on the lower grille. The MPV comes with a progressive roofline and sharp tail section with wraparound LED lights and an aggressive bumper with chrome applique. The Carens also get a rounded wheel arch and dual-tone alloy wheels. The MPV also gets a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

Kia Carens – Dimensions and Seating Options

The Kia Carens measures 4,540mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,708mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,780mm. Kia offers the Carens with a ground clearance of 195mm and 16-inch alloy wheels. To put things into perspective, the direct competitor of the Carens, the Hyundai Alcazar measures 4,500mm in length, 1,790mm in width, 1,675mm in height and gets a wheelbase 2760mm. The three-row MPV from Hyundai gets 200mm of ground clearance and comes with up to 18-inch alloy wheel options.

The Carens MPV comes with five variant options – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. The 6-seater option is only available in the Luxury Plus which is the top-of-the-line variant. The Carens MPV Luxury Plus is also available in the 7-seat option. The Carens MPV comes with a 2+3+2 (7-seater) option and 2+2+2 (6-seater) options. The MPV also comes with 2nd and 3rd Row Folding options. The Alcazar also features 2+3+2 or 2+2+2 seating options with captain seats and a centre console with cupholders.

Kia Carens – Interiors

On the inside, the Kia Carens MPV comes with a wraparound dashboard. The dashboard features a multilayered design with integrated 64-colour ambient lighting. The high-tech dashboard is complemented by spacecraft-like plush seats. The three-row MPV also gets 6 & 7 Seater options and class-leading space. The Kia Carens MPV also comes with remarkably large boot space. The brand also offers convenient features such as ONE-TOUCH EASY ELECTRIC TUMBLE SEAT in the second row.

Kia Carens – Top Features

The Kia Carens comes with features such as a 10.25-inch Audio Video Navigation Telematics (AVNT) system. The brand also offers first-in-class features such as ventilated seats in the front and a full-digital 4.2-inch instruments cluster. First-in-class features continue with wireless smartphone function, smart pure air purifier, Bose Premium sound system, and Kia Connect Next-Gen Connected Technology. The Kia Carens MPV Multi Drive Modes, Paddle Shifters and skylight sunroof.

Kia Carens – Technical Specifications

Powering the Kia Carens is a 1.4-litre Smartstream T-GDi Petrol Engine. The engine produces 140 PS of power and 242 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. The second option is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated Smartstream Petrol Engine. The engine produces 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. The third engine option is a 1.5-litre CRDi VGT Diesel Engine. The motor makes 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The oil motor comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission option.

Kia Carens – Safety Features

Kia is offering the Carens MPV with 10 Hi-safety packages as standard for all 5 trims of the Carens. The MPV comes with ESC, VSM, HAC, DBC, ABS, BAS, All-wheel disc brakes, and Rear Parking Sensors. The car also comes with Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The MPV also comes with 6 airbags as standard.
