There’s a surge in the number of electric vehicles all across the world. The scooter segment specifically is the one witnessing the maximum demand. Mob-ion, a French mobility startup, has revealed their latest offering in the form of an electric scooter named AM1. This makes it one of the first electric two-wheelers entirely made in France.
In addition to this, the scooter also gets an AFNOR accreditation, which is one of the most stringent in the automotive industry. This accreditation is only awarded if at least 50 per cent of the vehicle’s production takes place in France. Currently, the scooter has achieved a localisation figure of 70 per cent. Furthermore, with the setting up of more production lines, the figure will increase even further.
Powertrain and Mechanicals
Powering the AM1 is a brushless electric motor that makes a power output of 3kW. There are two removable batteries in use, that combined deliver a range of 140 km on a single charge. Mob-ion’s claims that charging time takes from 0 to 100 per cent in around 2 hours and 30 minutes. In terms of performance, the scooter can reach a top speed of 45 kmph, which is not enough but will do the job for intra-city commutes.
Features and Kit
Being an electric scooter, customers will expect AM1 to get all the necessary kits as per today’s standards. The list includes the likes of LED headlights, a reverse gear, a GPS-based location system, an anti-theft system that gets a remote shutdown option and more. As with other scooters in this segment, the digital instrument cluster provides a host of rider related statistics like battery level, range, odometer and more.
Variants and Price
Weighing at 92 kgs which is relatively less for an electric scooter, AM1 has a total load-carrying capacity of 260 kgs. Customers have two variants to choose from, the first is a single-seater, and the other is a double-seater. For the French market, Mob-ion has put on a sticker price of EUR 3,582, which translates to INR 3.04 lakh. And with this price tag, it is likely that this e-scooter won’t make its way to the Indian market.
