Skoda will launch new Compact-SUV in India, BEV also in pipeline

Skoda Auto India today revealed that the brand will be launching a new Compact-SUV in the Indian market. The new Skoda Compact SUV will compete with the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, the Hyundai Venue and the likes. In addition to this, the brand also revealed that the brand is working on a new Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).

Skoda reveals that the new SUV will make its debut in India in the first half of 2025. In addition to this, the upcoming compact-SUV will use the MQB-A0-IN platform which made its debut with the Skoda Kushaq SUV in 2021. The platform offer features such as high localisation, low cost of ownership, and quick turnaround times.

What Platform with the Skoda Compact-SUV use?

The MQB-A0-IN platform underpins the Kushaq and the Slavia. The MQB-A0-IN is the brand first platform developed by the company outside of Europe and made for India. Now the compact-SUV will be Skoda’s third vehicle which will a Made-for-India product.

Skoda Compact-SUV – Competitive Pricing

The all-new compact-SUV will be Skoda’s first product in the segment. Skoda reveals that the compact-SUV will make it on Indian roads as soon as 2025. The brand also aims to achieve sales of over 100,000 units by 2026 thanks to the new Compact-SUV. The sub-4-metre compact-SUV will get the excise benefits which the company wishes to pass on to the customers in the form of competitive pricing.

Skoda Compact-SUV – Manufacturing in India

Thanks to the MQB-A0-IN platform, Skoda will be able to achieve 95% localisation on the Compact-SUV. The brand will utilise its manufacturing unit in Chakan, near Pune for the compact-SUV. Also, the parts and components facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar will help achieve high levels of localisation. This translates to low cost of ownership as well as high period of warranty. Skoda will be offering standard warranties of 4 years and optional warranties of up to 8 years on the compact-SUV.

Name Your Skoda

Skoda has also announced a naming contest for this all-new compact SUV. The campaign is called “Name Your Skoda”. The brand also revealed five names which could be used for the upcoming compact-SUV. Skoda also revealed the names which the Compact-SUV could soon be christened. The brand also announced that its is inviting entries from across India for possible names for its first-ever compact-SUV in India. The names are as follows:-

  • Kylaq
  • Kariq
  • Kymaq
  • Kyroq
  • Kwiq

The brand in the near future will also be introducing a battery electric vehicle for the Indian market as well. While details on the EV are still scarce, it Skoda EV is likely to be based on the upcoming compact-SUV.
