However, with the new moniker, the XC70 has transformed into a more SUV-ish model that has the latest PHEV technology. As visible in the teaser images, the XC70 features iconic design traits from the other Volvo models. These include the use of the trademark Thor-hammer LED DRL lights, C-shaped LED taillights, and the closed front grille with the Volvo logo. The silhouette images show the new vertical LED headlamps and an aerodynamic front design for better efficiency. However, it will not be an EV-only model, and it will be interesting to see how the ICE powertrain cooling system will be handled with a closed front fascia. Overall, the XC70 looks more SUV than a station wagon, but it is not as imposing as the XC90, which is the flagship SUV from the brand. The shoulder lines and stretched length of the XC70 side profile show that it will focus on rear comfort and ride quality. Powertrain details have not yet been announced, but the company has revealed that it can do 200 km of range on the EV-only power. This can possibly mean that it uses the 18.8 kWh battery from the XC60 PHEV, which will help in saving fuel. Volvo will start accepting bookings for the XC70 soon in the Chinese market.
