Yamaha unveils Petronas SRT Yamaha YZF R1

Yamaha has revealed the brand’s flagship litre-class supersport motorcycle the Yamaha YZF R1 in the new MotoGP livery same as the Yamaha’s satellite racing team, Petronas SRT Yamaha. The brand has announced that only 46 examples of the Petronas SRT Yamaha YZF R1 will be made and the motorcycle will be sold at EUR 46,000 apiece, commemorating Petronas’ 46th anniversary. The price tag roughly converts to INR 40.4 lakhs. 

The Petronas SRT Yamaha YZF R1 not only features the team’s distinct colour scheme but also gets new track worthy upgrades. The limited-edition model comes with a different bodywork that replicates the YZR M1 MotoGP race bike and features aero winglets, a sculpted tank, filled headlight slits, slimmed-down tail section, a new carbon fibre fairing kit, racing footpegs, quick-action throttle, and an ECU thanks to the brand’s European tuning arm Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART). 

The Petronas SRT Yamaha YZF R1 also gets upgrades such as an Ohlins FGRT forks on the front and Ohlins TTX monoshock on the rear and high-performance braking components such as  Brembo GP4-RX callipers equipped to T-Drive rotors. The limited-edition model is also equipped with lightweight Marchesini aluminium wheels shod in Michelin race-spec tyres. The limited-edition Petronas SRT Yamaha YZF R1 also comes with a unique package that includes a KYT helmet, branded apparel and a VIP guest pass to a future MotoGP race of the customer’s choice.

The Petronas SRT Yamaha team entered the MotoGP in 2019 and in the inaugural season the team managed to nab six pole positions, seven podiums and coveted titles such as the Independent Team Championship and Independent Team Rider’s title. In the 2020 season Petronas SRT Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo secured his first two victories at Jerez and teammate Franco Morbidelli achieved his first podium finish at the Czech Republic GP.
