Yamaha R25 launching by April 2015

Reports on the web suggest that Yamaha has already started dealer training for an upcoming 250cc motorcycle which is expected to be the YZF-R25. The launch will take place after the 2015 YZF-R1 debut.

Expected to be launched by April 2015, this is Yamaha’s first quarter litre offering in the  Indian market. The company will conduct service training for this bike in the next couple of months. Test bikes have also been revealed to the dealers. There are rumours that Yamaha will mostly bring the ABS equipped R25 to India.

The R25 is powered by a 249cc, paraller-twin, DOHC, 8-valve, liquid-cooled petrol motor which produces 36 PS of power @ 12,000 RPM and 22.6 Nm of torque @ 10,000 RPM mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The bike will be brought to India via the CKD route to keep pricing competitive. KTM has already set the price to performance benchmark in the entry-level sportsbike market and Yamaha will surely have to account for this while pricing the R25.

The Yamaha R25 is expected to undercut the Kawasaki Ninja’s pricing, even after the inclusion of ABS. (Around Rs. 2.8 lakh)
