Yamaha has revealed the new 125cc Ray ZR 125 FI and Street Rally 125 FI scooters for the Indian market. The brand has now announced pricing for these two scooters yet, but they will be on showrooms soon. With this Yamaha is discontinuing the old Ray scooters and have transitioned to a BS6 compliant, 125cc scooter category.
Powering the Ray ZR 125 FI and Street Rally 125 FI is a 125cc, blue core, fuel-injected, single-cylinder, air-cooled petrol motor producing 8.2 PS of power @ 6500 RPM and 9.7 Nm of torque @ 5000 RPM. This makes it 30% more powerful than the old Ray scooter and the fuel economy is also claimed to be 16% more than before. Yamaha has managed to keep the weight of the new scooter lower than before by 4kg, now tipping the scale at 99kg.
Yamaha has introduced an idle start / stop system with the Ray ZR 125 FI and Street Rally 125 FI scooters which prevents unwanted idling, hence reducing fuel consumption. The scooter engine comes back to life when the throttle is twisted hence making it easy to live with. Both scooters also come with combi-brake system and there is an optional front disc brake on offer. With a smart motor generator, the Yamaha 125cc scooters now offer a silent starting mechanism. There is also a side stand engine cut-off switch which will make the scooters safer.
Design highlights of the 2020 Yamaha Ray ZR 125 FI and Street Rally 125 FI include a new Y-shaped LED DRL, small smoked front windscreen, digital speedometer cluster, alloy wheels, rim stripes, telescopic front forks, knuckle guards on the Street Rally variant, different body graphics for differentiation between the Ray ZR & Street Rally, block pattern tyre on the Street Rally, faux air intake design elements on the side profile (next to front apron), contoured seat, full size pillion grab rail, etc.
This 2020 update makes the Ray ZR 125 FI and Street Rally 125 FI an all new model rather than just a BS6 engine update.
