Yamaha Aerox 155 is a maxi scooter based on the YZF-R15 V3 engine

Yamaha has launched the Aerox maxi-scooter in the Indonesian market with a price tag of IDR 25,500,000 which roughly converts to INR 1.33 lakh. The 2020 Aerox maxi-scooter is powered by the same 155cc engine that does duty on the Yamaha YZF-R15 in the Indian market but comes with an automatic transmission. In Indonesia, the Yamaha Aerox is offered in two variants – Aerox 155 Connected and Aerox 155 Connected ABS.

In the engine department, the Aerox is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder water-cooled four-stroke SOHC engine with electronic fuel injection technology that helps produce 15.3 PS of power and 13.9 Nm of torque matched to a centrifugal type automatic gearbox with a dry clutch. To put things into perspective, the Yamaha YZF-R15 powered by the same engine produces 18.6 PS of power and 14.1 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. Similar to the YZF-R15 the Aerox also features the VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology and on top of that, the Aerox also gets Smart Motor Generator and Stop and Start System. While the Yamaha YZF-R15 develops more power the fully-faired motorcycle also weighs 142 kgs at the kerb compared to the Aerox which tips the scales at 125 kg at the kerb.

The 2020 Yamaha Aerox comes with a chiselled body design that features split type upswept LED headlamps, LED taillamps, sharp and aerodynamic front end design, edgy side fairings, ergonomically designed rider’s seats, upswept exhaust, a small flyscreen, fully digital LCD display with Yamaha connect features, smart key, electric power socket, hazard lamps and 14-inch alloy wheels.

The Aerox measures 1980mm in length, 700mm in width, 1150mm height with a wheelbase of 1350mm and a ground clearance of 143mm. The maxi-scooter comes with 5.5-litres of fuel tank capacity and a saddle height of 790mm. The Aerox features an underbone chassis with telescopic front suspension and piggyback type dual hydraulic shock absorbers with coil spring assist. Braking power comes from a disc brake setup on the front and a mechanical drum on the rear.

The Yamaha Aerox is unlikely to come to the Indian market anytime soon and the only sports scooter that matched the displacement is the Aprilia SR 160.
