Want the Toyota Century SUV in India? It’s getting a performance variant too.

Toyota has announced that its Century SUV will soon be available in a high-performance variant.

A Glimpse into the Toyota Century SUV

The Toyota Century SUV, which debuted in September 2023, has already made waves in the automotive world with its blend of opulence and advanced technology. Traditionally, the Century nameplate has been synonymous with luxury sedans in Japan, often compared to the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The SUV variant continues this legacy, offering a plush interior, cutting-edge features, and a powerful hybrid drivetrain.

Introducing the Performance Variant: Century GRMN

Toyota’s chairman, Akio Toyoda, recently confirmed that the Century SUV will receive a performance-oriented GRMN (Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring) variant. This announcement was made during a meeting with Century owners in China, where Toyoda expressed his vision of making the Century GRMN accessible to a global audience.

The Century GRMN SUV will feature several enhancements over the standard model. These include a more aggressive front splitter, specially designed side skirts, and a rear diffuser, all crafted from carbon fiber. The vehicle will also sport 22-inch gloss black alloy wheels, giving it a distinctive and sporty appearance.

Performance Upgrades

Under the hood, the Century GRMN is expected to receive significant performance upgrades. While the standard Century SUV is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 hybrid engine producing 406 hp, the GRMN variant might see the introduction of a more powerful V8 engine. Additionally, the GRMN will likely feature a sharper chassis setup, revised suspension, and enhanced steering and braking systems to deliver a more dynamic driving experience.

Global Expansion Plans

Currently, the Toyota Century SUV is available only in Japan and China. However, with the introduction of the GRMN variant, Toyota aims to expand its global footprint, targeting markets such as India, where there is a growing demand for high-end luxury SUVs. The Century GRMN will compete directly with other luxury performance SUVs like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge and the Maybach Night Series.
