Volvo is planning to bring theV40 hatchback to India in April 2015. This is a regular hatchback version of the V40, unlike the previously launched V40 Cross Country. While the Cross Country model is priced at Rs. 32.5 lakh, the V40 hatchback is expected to be priced around Rs. 22 – 25 lakh.
The regular V40 hatchback and the Cross Country variant have a lot of part sharing and even on the exterior design front, they look similar. The Cross Country sports a more rugged body style with sporty bumpers and side skirts. The V40 hatchback will dump the sump guards, side body cladding, roof rails and larger wheels to a more sedate, hatchback like exterior profile. The V40 hatchback will have different front and rear bumpers compared to the Cross Country. It will also sport LED DRLs at the front.
In India, the Volvo V40 hatchback will be launched in a FWD D3 variant powered by a transversely mounted 2.0L, turbocharged diesel motor producing 152 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque. The engine is expected to deliver 16.8 kmpl.
When launched, the Volvo V40 will rival the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1-Series and the upcoming Audi A3.
