Volvo has revealed the new EX30 electric car. This electric SUV is the smallest car in the company line-up as well as the cheapest. The prices for the EX30 start at US$ 36,145.
From a glance, we can see that the styling of the EX30 is pretty similar to the larger EX90. Common design elements include prominent wheel arches, a blanked-off grille and Thor’s hammer shaped headlamps.
In terms of dimensions, the new Volvo measures 4,234 mm long, 1,835 mm wide and 1,552 mm tall. The SUV is based on the parent Geely’s SEA platform. Volvo is offering 18-20 inch alloy wheel options on the EX30.
On the inside, the EX30 is a typical Volvo. There is a noticeable similarity with other cars in the stable. It gets a 12.3-inch vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment unit. This is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Volvo has also incorporated a soundbar across the width of the dashboard. Overall, the cabin has a minimalistic theme.
Volvo is offering a choice of powertrains based on the range. There is a single motor extended range option as well as the dual motor performance version. The former comes with a single motor on the back rated at 268 BHP and 343 Nm, with a 442 km EPA range. Meanwhile the higher performance option gets two motors with a combined 433 BHP and 542 Nm of torque. The range of this variant is 426 km (EPA cycle). According to Volvo, this higher output variant can do 0-98 km/h in 3.4 seconds.
The EX30 will first be launched in the American market in early 2024. A cross country version the EX30 is expected as well. We can expect this can to land up on our shores sometime in the second half of 2024. That said, Volvo has not released an exact timeline of the launch of the car.
