At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, Volvo Trucks India, revealed the Volvo FM Electric tractor truck. The Volvo Trucks India is a division of VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (VECV). VECV is a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors. The brand reveals that the all-electric Highway Tractor Truck is its commitment towards carbon neutrality. With the Volvo FM Electric truck the brand is offering an alternate fuel option to its customers.
Volvo is offering the FM 4×2 Electric tractor with a GCW of 44 tons. Powering the Volvo FM Electric truck is a 490 kW motor capacity and a battery pack with 540 kWh of power. Depending on the route and load, the electric truck offers a range os 250 to 300 km on a single charge.
The Volvo FM Electric truck tractor also comes with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). This includes Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Braking. The electric truck also comes with Driver Alert System and comes with Lane Changing Support.
Volvo reveals that the company will be initially offering the FM Electric tractor truck in India for five transport applications. These include Express logistics, Container Movement, Car Carriers, Reefers (Refrigerated), and Mineral Transport. In addition to this, Volvo also claims to be the only truck brand offering Heavy-Duty Diesel, LNG and Electric Trucks in India. This also reinforces the brand’s commitment towards environmental care and safety.
The brand also reveals that they have already delivered over 5000 heavy-duty Electric trucks in various applications. In the international market, the FM Electric truck is used on various applications. These include high-capacity grocery deliveries, container transportation, crane services and more in and around urban areas. Furthermore, the quiet and emissions-free electric powertrain means the truck can be used for operations in zero-emission zones or at hours of the day not accessible for diesel trucks.
