Volkswagen’s MEB components for Mahindra’s purpose-built electric platform INGLO

Mahindra has announced that the Indian carmaker will be sourcing electric components for the INGLO electric platform from German carmaker Volkswagen. Both the brand’s have now signed a supply agreement for electric components from Vw’s MEB platform as well as its unified cells. In addition to this, both companies will also be exploring further opportunities for collaboration in India, in the field of electric mobility.

Mahindra to Become First External Partner

Mahindra also announced that the brand will become VW’s first external partner to use the unified cell concept. The groundbreaking technology is Volkswagen’s core battery strategy. Through the supply chain agreement will have transaction volume of about 50 GWh over its lifetime.

The chain agreement which is set to run for several years will also help both brand’s to strengthen their e-mobility footprint in the Indian automotive market. This will also help accelerate the electric mobility segment in India. Furthermore, Mahindra will be introducing five all-electric SUVs in India using the purpose-built electric platform INGLO. Mahindra reveals that the EVs based on the INGLO platforms will arrive starting from December 2024.

Electric Vehicle market in India

India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world. In just 2023, more than five million new vehicles were sold in India. In the coming years, the electrification of the passenger vehicle segment is also expected. Early development in the supply chain of electric vehicle components will help in the smooth transition of vehicles from ICE to electric.

Volkswagen’s MEB platform powers the VW, Audi, Skoda, SEAT/CUPRA brand’s in the international market. The brand has also has external partners such as Ford in addition to Mahindra. Vehicles such as the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.Buzz as well as the Audi’s Q4 e-Tron, Q5 e-Tron, Skoda Enyaq and SEAT/Cupra Born, use the MEB platform.
