Volkswagen has got another feather in its cap. The made-in-India Virtus has scored a perfect 5 stars in a crash test conducted by the Latin-NCAP. The test car was manufactured in India. Back in October, twins Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq scored a perfect 5-star score in the revised Global NCAP tests.
The Virtus scored 36.94 points for adult occupation protection. In the frontal impact tests, the sedan offered good protection to the head of both the driver and the front passenger. While the driver’s chest was rated adequate, the co-passenger’s chest showed good protection. Both the driver’s and passenger’s knees offered good protection. Both the tibias of the driver were rated as adequate. However, the passenger’s left tibia was rated adequate, while the right was certified as good protection.
Further, the driver’s and passenger’s head, abdomen, and pelvis were well protected in the side impact tests. The chest protection was rated as adequate.
In the side pole test, the head, abdomen and pelvis were rated as good, but the chest was rated as marginal.
All occupants are provided with 3-point seat belts.
In the Child Occupant safety, the car scored 45 points out of a maximum of 49 points. The 3-year-old test dummy was seated in a rearward-facing child seat fixed using the car’s ISOFIX mounts and a support leg. The seat was successful in preventing head exposure and offered good protection.
Further, the dummy was safely protected from exposure in the side impact test.
The front passenger airbag can be disabled when installing a child seat in the front passenger seat.
The tested car was made in India and came with frontal, side head and side chest airbags, seat belt pre-tensioner and load limiter, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, ESC and Speed Assist. The Virtus scored 25.48 points in pedestrian protection.
