Volkswagen has taken the wraps off three new electric vehicle concepts at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show, reinforcing its commitment to the Chinese market. The ID. Aura, ID. Era, and ID. Evo concepts preview the brand’s future lineup, featuring cutting-edge technology and electrification strategies tailored for China.

Volkswagen ID. Aura

The ID. Aura is a sleek electric sedan designed by FAW-Volkswagen. It is the first vehicle based on Volkswagen’s new Compact Main Platform (CMP), which aims to deliver improved efficiency and driving dynamics. The sedan features sharp lines, a conventional lighting setup, and a futuristic interior with AI-driven autonomous capabilities.

Volkswagen ID. Era

The ID. Era, developed by SAIC Volkswagen, is a large three-row electric SUV with a boxy silhouette and a split headlight design. It incorporates a range-extender powertrain, combining an internal combustion engine with an electric motor to achieve a total range of up to 1,000 km. This setup ensures long-distance usability while maintaining the benefits of electrification.

Volkswagen ID. Evo

The ID. Evo, designed by Volkswagen Anhui, is a sportier SUV aimed at younger buyers. It features an 800V electrical architecture, enabling faster charging and improved performance. The SUV’s aggressive styling includes eyebrow-like LED DRLs, sleek headlights, and a dynamic rear profile.

Volkswagen has confirmed that production versions of these concepts will be equipped with AI-based autonomous driving systems, reaching Level 2++ automation as early as next year. The company plans to introduce 30 new models in China by 2027, including 20 new energy vehicles (NEVs), which will consist of fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extended models.
