Volkswagen India has confirmed the debut of the Tiguan R-Line, the sportier and more performance-focused variant of its popular SUV, on April 14, 2025. This marks the introduction of the range-topping R-Line trim to the Indian market, arriving as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). The Tiguan R-Line is set to compete with entry-level luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Audi Q3.

Tiguan R-Line perfromance

The Tiguan R-Line is based on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform, which underpins the latest generation of the Tiguan globally. The SUV features a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that delivers 261 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, ensuring a dynamic driving experience. While global markets offer additional powertrain options, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, these are unlikely to be introduced in India.

Tiguan R-Line design

In terms of design, the hot SUV distinguishes itself with sportier aesthetics. It features full-width horizontal LED light strips at the front and rear, a bold front fascia, and a sleek black panel integrating the taillight cluster. The SUV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels and includes ‘R’ badging on the front doors, enhancing its sporty appeal. The latest generation of the Tiguan is also 30 mm longer than its predecessor, although the wheelbase remains unchanged.

Sporty interiors

Inside, the sporty SUV boasts a premium and tech-laden cabin. It comes equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system running Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 software. The cabin also features sports seats, an ambient lighting package with 30 color options, and a clean, upmarket dashboard design. Over-the-air updates ensure that the SUV’s technology remains current.

Expected price

Globally, the Tiguan R-Line is available with Dynamic Chassis Control Pro, which includes adaptive suspension and twin-valve variable dampers. We do not know if these features will make it to the India-spec model. The SUV is expected to be priced around INR 50 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as Volkswagen’s most expensive offering in India.
