Volkswagen Tayron SUV coming to India in 2025?

Volkswagen India is gearing up to launch a new seven-seater SUV in the country by early 2025. The SUV, called the Tayron, will be based on the next-generation Tiguan platform and will replace the Tiguan AllSpace in the Indian market.

Volkswagen Tayron – What to Expect?

The Tayron is a global model that will be manufactured in Germany, China, and Mexico. It will also be assembled in India from CKD (completely knocked down) kits to keep the costs competitive. The Tayron will be offered in both SUV and coupe body styles, with the latter being a more stylish and sporty option.

The Tayron will be larger than the outgoing Tiguan AllSpace, with a length of 4,735 mm, a width of 1,859 mm, and a height of 1,682 mm. It will also have a longer wheelbase of 2,791 mm, which will translate into more space and comfort for the passengers. The SUV will have a premium and modern design, with sleek LED headlamps, a large grille, chrome accents, and alloy wheels. The coupe version will have a sloping roofline, a rear spoiler, and a dual exhaust system.

Interior

The interior of the Tayron will be similar to the new Tiguan, with a dashboard that features a central infotainment system, and illuminated trim elements. The SUV will also come with features such as leather seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and a Harman Kardon sound system. The safety features will include airbags, ABS, traction control, hill hold assist, lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, and adaptive cruise control.

Engine

The Tayron will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will produce 190 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The SUV will also have a four-wheel-drive option and multiple driving modes. Some markets will also get a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine and a plug-in hybrid variant.

The Tayron is expected to be priced between ₹35 lakh and ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete with the likes of the Jeep Meridian, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Skoda Kodiaq.
