The Volkswagen Taigun has just been crash tested by the Latin NCAP. The SUV has secured a 5-star rating. The car is made in India and exported for the overseas markets. The test car was equipped with six airbags and ESC as standard.
Adult Occupant Protection of the VW Taigun
The Volkswagen Taigun has managesd to score 36.99 points out of a total of 40. In the frontal offset crash test, the driver’s chest area was rated as marginal while all others including the passenger were rated as good.
In the side crash test, all the areas of the driver received good protection. However in the side pole impact test, the chest was rated as marginal.
A whiplash test was also conducted on rear impact. The mech area was rated as good protection.
Overall, the result is inline with the one from the Global NCAP. The only difference is that GNCAP tested a car with dual standard airbags.
Child Occupant Protection of the VW Taigun
In the tests for younger occupants, Latin NCAP used test dummies representing 18-month old and 3-year old children. The car scored 45 points out of 49 in this portion of the assessment tests. Both the test dummies were placed in rear facing seats secured using ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
The test car was equipped with a feature to disable the front passenger airbag incase a child seat is installed there. This can be done via a switch. Indian-spec Taigun doesn’t have this feature.
Safety Systems in VW Taigun
Points are also awarded for the safety systems in the car. The Taigun was equipped with seat belt reminders for all occupants, an optional autonomous emergency braking system, standard ESC and is compliant with UN 127 pedestrian protection norms.
Volkswagen Taigun in India
Here on our shores, the Volkswagen Taigun is offered with a choice of two engines – 1.0L turbo petrol good for 113 BHP and 178 Nm of torque and a larger 1.5L engine that is rated at 148 BHP and 250 Nm of max torque.
