Volkswagen has not had a hit product in the Indian market for long, one which brings them high sales volumes. The T-Roc is tipped to come to the Indian market soon, and the German car manufacturer has revealed the T-Roc Cabriolet which is a drop-top convertible variant as the name suggests. The T-Roc is a mid-size SUV, and when it comes to India, it will rival the likes of Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Nissan Kicks and the new-gen Hyundai Creta. The Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet will make a debut in September 2019 at the Frankfurt motor show.
Volkswagen might bring the T-Roc to India as a CBU, since the government now allows to import 2,500 units a year without the need for homologation. It is unclear of the T-Roc Cabriolet would also make it to India. But it very well makes sense to give it an edge in the segment.
The T-Roc has a soft top at the moment, and a coupe cannot be ruled out in the future. Volkswagen claims that the roof can be retracted in just 9 seconds and can be operated at speed up to 30 kmph. Now the T-Roc has quite some changes made to the platform to make it suitable for this convertible avatar. The T-Roc Cabriolet gets the length increased by 34mm and wheelbase increased by 37mm to accommodate the folding roof. Also, this is a 3-door version without doors for the rear cabin which also give it a premium and unique touch. The convertible model has also undergone heavy structural changes in the side panels, cross members, doors, windscreen frame and also the underbody since the roof components have been chopped off.
The brand claims that even with the folding roof, the T-Roc Cabriolet has useable rear seat space for two and 284L boot space.
The T-Roc will come matched with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder engine producing 115 HP of power and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder motor producing 150 HP of power matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG option on the bigger motor.
