Volkswagen’s head honcho Ralf Brandstätter has revealed the all-electric ID.X hot hatchback via his personal social media account. The new Volkswagen ID.X is based on the Volkswagen ID.3 hatchback but features sharp exterior elements and interior changes. The power unit is also a powerful version of the ID.4 GTX and comes with an all-wheel-drivetrain.
The Volkswagen ID.X comes with aggressive styling, featuring a Grey and Fluorescent livery on the exteriors. The theme continues to the interiors as well, and the hatch comes with a Grey dashboard, door trim and seat covers, and Fluorescent accents. On the outside, the ID.X also features diamond print graphics on the doors and the C-pillar. The Fluorescent Green colour also accents the roofline, door sides and bumper. The ID.X also gets larger diameter alloy wheels shod in low profile tyres.
The car also features sporty seats and a classic three-point Volkswagen steering wheel with multiple controls. The interior picture also reveals Green highlights around the AC vents, seat pipings, steering wheels and floor mats. The seat upholstery also appears to be finished in Alcantara and leather. The hatch comes with a virtual cockpit, digital instruments cluster and a large floating-island infotainment system.
Powering the Volkswagen ID.X concept will be a 334 Hp electric motor. This motor will be 27 Hp more potent than the ID.4 GTX and whopping 130 Hp more powerful than the base Volkswagen ID.3. While the ID.3 features rear-wheel drive, the ID.X will come with an all-wheel-drivetrain. The ID.X shares the MEB platform and comes with the standard ID.3 length.
But the boot space might have made some compromise to accommodate the four-wheel-drivetrain. Despite the addition of the extra power unit and probably a larger battery, interestingly, the ID.X is 200 kgs lighter than the ID.3. How this lightness is achieved has not been revealed yet. What the CEO revealed is the 0-100 time of 5.3 seconds.
Unfortunately, Volkswagen does not plan to launch a production version of the ID.X. Volkswagen will use the concept study for ideas in the brand’s future electric cars.
