Volkswagen Virtus enters the ‘India Books of Record’, delivering 150 units in a single day by EVM Motors in Kerala. Since the launch of the Virtus, VW has opted for such mega delivery programs for the delivery to its customers. Furthermore, this also exemplifies the positive response of the customers for Virtus. The newly launched sedan is a part of VW’s ‘India 2.0’ project. And it seems the plan is working out pretty well for the brand.
Starting at an ex-showroom price of INR 11.21 lakh, Virtus is the top pick amongst the customers. The Virtus comes with two engine and transmission options. Thus, also offering a wide variety to the customers. The sedan is currently available across 152 showrooms in India.
With the growing number of SUVs in the market, the demand for sedans is declining. Every other customer out there looking to buy a new car wants to opt for an SUV or a Crossover. The days are gone when sedans used to rule the roads. Moreover, this trend is not seen only in India but in the overseas markets as well.
Customers favour SUVs over sedans, and the reasons are also reasonably practical. The high ground clearance of an SUV is booming, given the road conditions in India. Furthermore, SUVs also feel much bigger in size when compared to sedans in a similar price range. Thus, it gives a sense of getting more with the same amount.
But, Skoda and VW are quite optimistic about sedans. With their recent launches, namely Slavia and Virtus, both will try to revive the sedan segment. From a driving experience perspective, sedans are much better to drive. The low-slung body aids in better control and handing and helps contain the body roll very effectively. All these are negative points while driving an SUV. Car enthusiasts have a soft corner for both the carmakers and thus Skoda and VW are aiming at a somewhat niche category of people.
