Vietnamese automaker VinFast has been spotted testing its VF e34 electric SUV on Indian roads. This move comes shortly after the company’s groundbreaking ceremony for a new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, signaling its commitment to the Indian market.

A New e-SUV

The VF e34 is a midsize SUV, comparable in dimensions to popular models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It measures 4.3 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.6 meters, positioning it comfortably within the competitive segment of family-friendly SUVs.

Design-wise, the VF e34 features a split headlamp configuration, aligning with the design language of VinFast’s current lineup. The rear is adorned with large L-shaped tail lamp clusters, giving the vehicle a modern and distinctive appearance.

Inside, the VF e34 offers a conventional yet sleek cabin layout. It boasts a 3-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. The center console is dominated by a large, vertical touchscreen infotainment system, which is expected to be the hub for navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings.

Battery and Motor

Under the hood, the VF e34 is powered by a single electric motor that delivers 148 bhp and 242 Nm of torque. It draws energy from a 41.9 kWh battery pack, which promises a range of 319 km on the NEDC cycle. VinFast claims the SUV can sprint from 0-100 kmph in under 9 seconds, with a top speed capped at 130 kmph.

The feature list of the VF e34 includes modern amenities such as level-2 ADAS, climate control, dual USB charging ports, Highline TPMS, connected car technology, and a 360-degree camera. The cabin’s all-grey theme is accentuated with chrome inserts, and the dual-digital displays add to the high-tech feel.

As VinFast gears up for a more pronounced presence in India, the VF e34 is likely to be a strong contender in the EV space. With an expected price range of INR 20 lakh to INR 25 lakh, it will compete with the likes of the MG ZS EV, Maruti eVX, Kia Carens EV, and Mahindra XUV.e8, among others.

The sighting of the VF e34 on Indian roads is a testament to VinFast’s strategy to tap into the EV potential of the country. As the Indian government pushes for a greener future with its ambitious EV policies, global players like VinFast are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of eco-friendly transportation in India.
