Vespa GTS scooter coming to India, spotted testing

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Internationally, Vespa has a very successful line-up of scooters under the GTS nameplate. This scooter comes with a larger displacement engine and has so far been not made available in India. While the maxi-scooter was showcased at various events in India, it never made its way to the showrooms. Now, a new spy image of the GTS scooter has surfaced online and reports indicate that Piaggio is working on one for the Indian market.

Made-for-India Vespa GTS

It has been said that Piaggio India is working on a dedicated large displacement scooter for the Indian market. There has been no confirmation of the same, but now, images of a test mule of the scooter have surfaced online. The scooter draws inspiration from the GTS 300 sold internationally.

One of the features of the scooter includes a digital instrument cluster. This fully digital cluster will make it stand out from the rest. The rest of the design and styling cues are similar to the international model. That said, the company for sure will be making India-specific changes.

The front wheel gets a disc brake while the rear comes with a drum. Hence, there will be ABS, but only on the front wheel.

Coming to the engine, from the images, it appears very different from both the international GTS 300, which uses a liquid cooled engine, and the 125-150cc motors on sale in India. This means that the scooter will be powered by a higher capacity engine for sure.

Launch details of the Made-for-India Vespa GTS

There is no word yet on the timelines of the scooter officially, but the two-wheeler looks ready for a market launch. This means we can expect the scooter to hit the Indian shelves by the second half of 2023.
