Tata Curvv CNG – What to expect?

The launch of the Curvv crossover SUV did not change the fortune for Tata Motors as expected. While it is available in various powertrain options, including an all-electric version, the Curvv is struggling to achieve better sales.

However, this might change soon as the company is developing the CNG powertrain for it. A test car that was recently spotted in Pune shows that the CNG version is almost ready.

As rumoured online, it is based on the lower-spec 1.2-litre Revotron engine, which is also used on the Nexon CNG version. This engine develops 99 bhp and 170 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively.

The Curvv CNG will also use the trademark dual-CNG technology of Tata, which is also used by the other CNG models, including Altroz and Punch CNG.

At present, Tata Motors is also the only manufacturer in India that offers an AMT transmission option on its CNG cars. The Curvv CNG is also expected to be offered with an automatic transmission alongside the manual.

The design, cabin, or features will remain unchanged on the CNG iteration. However, its pricing will be aggressive to boost the moderate sales of the moniker.

We anticipate the Curvv CNG to debut around the upcoming festive season later this year.

Our verdict

The Tata Curvv CNG model can prove to be a game changer as it is expected to offer a premium cabin, sturdy build, and safety features along with the fuel-efficient CNG powertrain. Assumingly, more spy shots are likely to surface in the coming months, ahead of the official launch.
