The latest spy shots come from Rohtak, directly from the front gate of the R&D facility of Maruti Suzuki. Multiple test mules are seen entering the facility of what is sought as a road test run. Out of these, the main highlight is the long-wheelbase SUV which is a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara.
The internally codenamed SUV is Y-17 and it will use the same platform and engine options as the current-gen Grand Vitara. It will be a direct rival to the Hyundai Alcazar, which is essentially a 7-seater version of the Hyundai Creta.
Speaking of the details known, the test mule is longer to accommodate the third row of seats. Also, the alloy wheel design is different from the current model. While its front fascia is not visible much, the headlight looks to be positioned in the traditional place, unlike the Grand Vitara which has headlights mounted in the bumper.
We are assuming that its cabin will feature an upmarket design and more luxurious features. As its main agenda will be to offer comfort to the second-row and third-row passengers, Maruti will likely offer captain seats on it.
Feature-wise, it can possibly get updated features like electric second-row seats with ventilation, a new dashboard with connected screens like the upcoming Maruti e Vitara, wireless mobile phone connectivity, and more.
While there is no official information about its powertrain options, we anticipate that it will get the same engines as the current Grand Vitara. If so, then it will be offered with a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine mated to a 5-speed MT and a 6-speed AT gearbox options. The other powertrain will be the 1.5-litre strong-hybrid engine that comes with an e-CVT gearbox.
As of now, there are no exact details available about the launch timeline. But, we are expecting Maruti to debut the Grand Vitara 7-seater at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2026. It is likely to be priced from a starting tag of Rs 15 lakh expected.
