Mahindra and Mahindra is currently in advanced testing stages of adding new engines for the upcoming Mahindra and Ssangyong products. Based on a common platform, the new range of engines will be available in petrol and diesel.
New engines include:
- 1.2L petrol and diesel
- 1.6L petrol and diesel
- 1.5L diesel
- Unconfirmed: 1.0L and 1.5L petrol
This project is rumoured to cost around Rs. 700 crore and the first motor to make it to the production line would be a 1.6L petrol and diesel, 4-cylinder motor in 2015. However, these will be Ssangyong specific motors.
A new 1.2L petrol and diesel motor will make it to the Indian streets next year. The 1.2L engine is a downsized, 3-cylinder iteration of the 1.6L engine and will help the manufacturer price the product competitively. The new 1.5L diesel motor would make it to the production line only in 2017.
