One of the most iconic and easily recognisable cars in the world is arguably the Volkswagen Beetle. Now, Chinese car manufacturer GWM’s electric vehicle division ORA has taken inspiration from the Volkswagen Beetle and is developing an electric vehicle similar to the Beetle. Images of the ORA electric vehicle have emerged on the internet before its intended debut. The ORA is getting ready to make its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show 2021 next week.
ORA EV Design & Styling
The ORA electric vehicle draws inspiration from the classic VW Beetle. The images show that the car features rounded headlamps and taillamps and a rounded silhouette. The ORA also features retro flared wheel arches and chrome trim around the car. The images also reveal four doors, LED headlamps and taillamps, multispoke alloy wheels and a large greenhouse.
Interiors
On the inside, the ORA features a multilayered dashboard with a retro-classic steering wheel. The steering wheel features a horn ring and matching leather wrap from the interior trim. The dashboard fascia and the centre console also features floral trims. The dashboard centre features a large touchscreen infotainment system, rounded driver’s instruments cluster and rounded air-conditioning vents.
The transmission tunnel also houses a rotary knob for drive select or mode select and few other control keys. The rear end of the transmission tunnel features air-condition vents for the rear passengers as well. The front seats are likely to come with electric seat adjustment as well. The rear however comes with bench seating and the car features tuck and roll upholstery giving it a vintage look.
Powertrain
While details on the powertrain are still scarce, speculations are that the ORA could use the 33kW electric motor from the ORA R1. The ORA R1’s electric powertrain delivers 48 Ps of power and 125 Nm of torque. The ORA could draw power from a 33 kWh lithium-ion battery which provides a range of 351 km per charge on the ORA R1. The GWM ORA R1 was showcased at the 15th edition of the Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi.
