2020 Nissan Kicks with BS6 petrol engine launched at INR 9.49 lakh

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Nissan India has officially announced the launch of the 2020 Kicks SUV which is now BS6 compliant. Apart from meeting the new norms, the Kicks now ditches the diesel engine option and also comes with an exciting new turbo-petrol motor. With this, the Nissan Kicks also gets the most powerful petrol engine in its segment when compared to competition such as the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Prices for the new 2020 Nissan Kicks SUV start from INR 9.49 lakh ex-showroom.

The new motor now available on the Kicks is the HR13 DDT unit which is a turbocharged petrol sipping block producing class-leading 156 PS of power and 254 Nm of torque. Nissan is offering this engine with a manual as well as CVT gearbox option. The brand claims that with cylinder coating technology inspired from the Nissan GTR and dual variable timing system, this new motor will offer an exciting drive and will also be able to deliver better torque on low RPM. Nissan claims that their new X-tronic CVT for this segment will be 40% more efficient than existing CVT transmissions. Additional features on the 2020 BS6 Nissan Kicks include ESP, traction control, cruise control and hill start assist. The variants priced under INR 10 lakh come with the familiar 1.5L petrol motor which is paired only to a manual gearbox option. This variant is more to break the price barrier than offer excitement to the potential customers.

Fuel efficiency for the 2020 Nissan Kicks is rated at 13.9 kmpl for the 1.5L motor and 15.8 kmpl for the 1.3L turbo-petrol motor.

Nissan will be offering the 2020 Kicks SUV with a 2 year / 50,000 km warranty as standard which can be extended to 5 year / 100,000 kms. The brand offers free 2 year RSA in more than 1500 cities in the country and starting from INR 2,099 / year, one can also opt for pre-paind maintenance package. The updated BS6 Nissan Kicks SUV will be sold in a total of 7 variants which include 2 new CVT automatic options.

Not much has changed on the cosmetics front, so one cannot consider this as a facelift. The updated Kicks is more of a model year change just to meet the new emission norms. The Nissan Kicks as started receiving a mid-life makeover in international markets and depending on the sales performance of the BS6 model, we can expect the design changes to come to our showrooms by 2021.
