Volkswagen has released the first teaser image of its upcoming entry-level electric car. It will be based on the MEB platform that is also shared by the ID.2 EV globally. However, VW will shorten it to save costs and accommodate a smaller battery and a single electric motor.
Looking closely at the teaser image, the design language of the upcoming EV is revealed partially. It gets a black front grille with an illuminated logo and tri-LED headlight. The dual C-shaped DRLs and a rectangular LED headlamp look sharp. In addition to it, the bumper has long vertical DRLs that give it a crossover look.
VW has designed this car to look like a mini crossover with a rugged design and raised height for practicality, as per the officials. It will be one of the nine EV models that are scheduled to launch by 2027 globally. Using its underpinnings, Skoda will also introduce an identical twin in the European and select global markets.
Currently, Volkswagen is finalizing the production location for the upcoming EV. However, the officials claim that it can be a potential EV successor to the popular Up hatchback.
Meanwhile, the Indian wing of the VW is currently fighting a tax fraud case with the Indian authorities.
Volkswagen India is currently working on a tailor-made EV platform for the upcoming EVs in India. This will be the CMP (Chinese Modular Platform), with heavily localized parts and tailored structure. It will house the future EVs for India and the other Asian markets.
