Uber Moto Women now in India, offers women-only bike rides

Uber is a leading mobility app in India. Recently, it has taken the initiative to make rides safer for female drivers and riders. They have introduced a new service called ‘Uber Moto Women’,’ under which they will offer women-only bike rides. This service was introduced in Bengaluru. 

What is ‘Uber Moto Women’: 

Uber Moto Women is an on-demand two-wheeler service. Females can choose to ride with female riders and drivers. This service is introduced by Uber, keeping in mind the safety of the women. And giving the female rider a safe option to travel as well as female drivers to work. This service came into existence by taking into consideration the feedback from women riders and drivers.

 

Offered safety by ‘Uber Moto Women’: 

Uber Moto Women service is backed up by Uber’s technologically driven safety features. It enables the riders to share their trip details with 5 of their trusted contacts, and these contacts can keep a check and track the ride in real time. Also, the shared phone number and drop-off address will be kept anonymous for privacy protection purposes. It has also introduced features known as RideCheck, in which it monitors the ride and gives the required support if any irregularities occur during it like if the ride has been stopped for a long time or the rider has been dropped midway and route change or deviation. 24*7 Safety helpline is also available for both female riders and drivers.

Creating job opportunities for women:

Bike taxis have been growing immensely in urban India, and the report by KPMG titled ‘Unlocking the potential of bike taxis in India’ indicates that, in total, 280 million bike taxi rides were completed across the platforms in 2022.

Also, the report says that bike taxis have the potential to generate 5.4 million livelihood opportunities in India. However, the participation of women in the ride-hailing space continues to be low, and ‘Uber Moto Women will offer flexible working hours and short-distance trips, along with easy navigation, ultimately encouraging more women to drive.
