Uber has launched some new features for its riders, especially for female riders and drivers, to enhance their safety and promote a safe work environment.
Uber safety feature: Female rider preference option
Under this feature, female drivers can now select only female passengers which will be a better option, especially in late hours. This feature came into existence by taking the input of drivers and over 21,000 journeys have already been made possible. This crucial feature enables female earners to put their safety first, invest more hours behind the wheel, and increase their income.
Uber safety feature: Audio recording:
If the rider at any time feels uneasy or unsure about their safety while working, they can now record audio. However, to protect the privacy, the rider cannot access the encrypted recordings. Also, Uber cannot access it, unless the rider chooses to include the audio in a safety report. This feature is accessible to drivers and riders countrywide and complies with the regulation of India’s one-party consent.
Uber safety feature: SOS integration:
This feature enables the drivers as well as the passenger to instantly communicate their position and trip information to police in case of any emergency. The feature is currently active in Telangana. The testing of this feature is already done in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and will be ready to go live after receiving the approval from the state police.
Gender sensitization:
In order to promote and raise awareness regarding gender equity and proper behavior towards drivers, the company is also collaborating with Durga, an NGO based in Bangalore. As part of this collaboration, Uber will conduct an online training session to help drivers comprehend and understand the safety concerns of female passengers.
Further, the option to automatically turn on features like Audio Recording, Share My Trip, and RideCheck is also provided.
