TVS recently announced its flagship electric scooter, the X. While it’s still a while away before we see it on our roads, let us take a look at how it compares with the Ather 450X. While the TVS X is priced from INR 2,50,000, the Ather 450X will set back buyers by INR 1,38,000 – 1,44,921.
TVS X vs Ather 450X : Design
While both manufacturers are offering electric scooters, TVS has gone for the maxi-scooter design. The TVS comes with a seat height of 770 mm.Further, it doesn’t get a floorboard like a conventional scooter. Instead the frame of the scooter occupies it. The scooter features a solid seat design as well. TVS offers 19-litres of under seat storage with the electric X.
Coming to the Ather 450, the electric scooter gets a more conventional design. It has slim seats, pillion grab handles and updated rear view mirrors. Ather updated the scooter earlier this year and now offers the scooter with more colour options.
Feature comparison : TVS X vs Ather 450X
TVS has offered a large 10.25-inch adjustable display on theX. It comes with Bluetooth connectivity along with music playback and turn-by-turn navigation. TVS also allows the dash to be used to play games or watch videos when stationary. This is possible thanks to the PlayTech system. Rider features like reverse assists, cruise control and hill hold are also offered with the TVS X.
Ather is offering a 7-inch touchscreen on the 450X. The scooter comes with features like follow-me-home lights, coasting regeneration, navigation, tow & theft notifications, ride statistics, and more.
Powertrain differences : TVS X and Ather 450X
The new TVS X is based on the company’s XLETON platform. It gets a ram-air cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). Thanks to this, the X is rated at 7 kW power with a peak power of 11 kW. TVS has equipped a large 4.44 kWh battery on the X. TVS claims a range of 140 km on a single charge (IDC) and a top speed of 105 km/h. Meanwhile the 0-40 km/h time is claimed to be 2.6 seconds.
The 450X is offered with a 3.7 kWh battery. This is paired with a 6.4 kW motor. The maximum range claimed on this vehicle is 150 km. A smaller 2.9 kWh battery is also offered with a lower range of 111 km. In terms of charging, the larger battery takes 5 hours 45 minutes for a full charge.
