A new leaked patent image of what appears to be the modified TVS XL has surfaced online. It appears that this is the all-electric version of the popular XL moped.
TVS already has iQube in the electric vehicle segment. However the company might be looking at a more mass market approach for its electric offering. Hence the all-electric TVS XL.
As per the design image, we can see that the two wheeler gets a frame mounted battery pack and a small electric motor. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a chain.
We can also see the telescopic front suspension, dual rear shock absorbers, brakes and wire-spoke wheels.
In the petrol guise, the XL comes with a 99.7cc single cylinder engine. This is good for 4.3 BHP and 6.5 Nm. We can expect the electric motor to match these stats and offer a much better torque due to its inherent nature.
Built with a utilitarian design, the moped features a large footboard for luggage, a tall handlebar, a single-seat, and slim tires. Other design details include a halogen headlamp with an LED strip, turn indicators, and footpegs on both sides.
The TVS XL is very popular in rural and semi-rural markets. Known for its frugal nature and simple build, the two wheeler can be considered as a workhorse.
TVS Motor Company experienced growth in domestic sales of both two-wheelers (2W) and three-wheelers (3W), while exports decreased. The overall sales, including 2W and 3W, domestic and exports, increased by 2.56 per cent year-on-year (YoY), with a total of 316,411 units sold compared to 308,501 units in June 2022. However, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, sales dipped by 4.29 per cent from 330,609 units sold in May 2023.
